GST & Tax

Do I Need GST as a Sole Trader?

Many sole traders are unsure whether they need to register for Goods and Services Tax (GST).

GST is a 10% tax applied to most goods and services sold in Australia.

You may need to register for GST if your business turnover reaches the GST registration threshold or if specific business activities require registration.

Once Registered

Businesses generally need to:

  • Charge GST on applicable sales
  • Lodge Business Activity Statements (BAS)
  • Keep accurate financial records
  • Report GST collected and paid

Some sole traders choose to register voluntarily even if they are not required to do so.

Understanding your GST obligations is important to avoid compliance issues and unexpected tax liabilities.

PRZ Tax & Accounting can assist with GST registration, BAS lodgements, bookkeeping, and ongoing accounting support.
